  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and finely diced (about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar. Let it foam for 5-10 minutes.
  2. Add remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, vanilla, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled.
  5. For the filling, mix diced apples with sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  6. Roll out the dough into an 18×12 inch rectangle; spread with softened butter and sprinkle apple mixture evenly.
  7. Roll tightly into a log and cut into 12 equal slices.
  8. Arrange in a greased baking pan; let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk.
  11. Frost warm rolls before serving.
