  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon green food coloring (adjust as needed)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (adjust as necessary)

Instructions

  1. Cream the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl; gradually mix into the butter mixture.
  3. Divide dough in half; add cocoa to one half and green food coloring plus milk to the other half.
  4. Wrap both doughs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Roll out each colored dough into rectangles about ¼ inch thick; cut strips approximately 1 inch wide.
  6. Layer strips of chocolate and green dough side by side, then stack them to form a block; refrigerate again for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the chilled block into cookies about ¼ inch thick and place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until set; cool before serving.
