- 1 cup bread flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 ½ cups active sourdough starter
- 1 ¼ cups warm water (110°F)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, bread flour, and salt. In another bowl, mix the sourdough starter, warm water, and sugar until blended.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for 4-6 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it seam side down in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover with oiled plastic wrap or a damp cloth and let rise again for 1-2 hours until puffed up above the pan edges.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F during the last 30 minutes of rising.
- Brush melted butter on top of the loaf and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow when tapped.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
